USA, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bremer Family, Howell Mountain, Napa, 2003

Note: this is a study in how patience after taking the cork out can pay off. Wait at least two hours post decanting before enjoying this. Prior to the two hour mark, the wine is a disappointment, but after two hours she is elegant. N/ Clean cassis. Warm, dry hay. Warm granite, flint, and cedar. […]

Spain, Tempranillo, Rioja, Montecillo, Reserva, 2003

Note: Potent barnyard aromas performed full frontal assault upon opening of this bottle.  They needed at least an hour to burn down to a pleasant level. N/ Light, musty barrel room. Clean, vividly ripe plums. Mature and complex wood work. Slight turf and dark earth wafts. T/ Medium-full mouthfeel. A gorgeous cherry reduction sauce. Chile, Red Blend, Calina, Bravura, 2003

Uncategorized

A red blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 5% Carmenere. The flagship blend of Vina Calina. N/ Leather, red berries, spice, and coffee. Interestingly, even though at only 5% strength, the signature smoke of Carmenere softly invades your nose.  Rather than her sometimes overpowering campfire smell, in this version she is sweet and forgiving.  The Cab Sav […]
